Blog: Mocs lead Indiana at halftime
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Scrappy isn't a good enough description. Hearty. Heady. And a little but lucky. The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's basketball team owns a 50-46 lead at No. 9 Indiana at halftime. The Mocs have brought out more than a few boo birds from the cream and crimson crowd. But it's hard to tell if the fans are booing their highly touted squad with two future NBA players on it or whether they're booing the Mocs. UTC survived the Hoosiers' opening blow. But IU went on a spurt to turn a 20-18 lead into a 34-25 spread. Junior college transfers Qavotstaraj Waddell and Kevin Goffney keyed the Mocs' response combining for a 9-0 run that gave UTC a 41-40 lead. Senior point guard Kevin Bridgewaters leads the Mocs with 14 points on 6-of-6 shooting.

Land rezoned for Brentwood office park
BRENTWOOD � To the chagrin of many and the relief of others, city commissioners voted 5-2 Monday night in favor of rezoning the 31-plus-acre property on the southwest corner of Maryland Farms business park. The property, known as the PLC tract and owned by developer John Cooper, will be developed with four commercial buildings, while 29 acres will be given to the city for use as a passive park. .
Plant nursery closing for the holidays
The adjacent Nature Coast Botanical Gardens will remain open during daylight hours and celebrate its Holiday in the Gardens through early January. Holiday in the Gardens includes decorated evergreens lining the main walkway, and in other areas of the gardens. The garden railroad is also decorated. Trees can still be purchased for $50 and decorated through Dec. 24, when there will be a contest for the best-decorated tree. For information, call 683-9933. SPRING HILL CPR for health care providers offered A CPR for the Professional Health Care Provider class will be offered at 6 p.m. Jan. 17 and a First Aid class at 6 p.m. Jan. 24 at the Spring Hill Enrichment Center, 11375 Cortez Blvd., behind Oak Hill Hospital. Both courses are certified by the American Heart Association and the American Safety and Health Institute.
Frank Langfitt, NPR Biography
Frank Langfitt began work at NPR in December, 2004. His stories on labor and the workplace can be heard on Morning Edition, All Things Considered and other NPR shows. He's covered various subjects from the Sago coal mine disaster and domestic slavery in the suburbs to the nation's Blackberry craze and mass layoffs in the auto industry. Before becoming a journalist, he drove a taxi in Philadelphia and dug latrines in Mexico. Prior to NPR, Frank worked for a dozen years at The Baltimore Sun. He spent five of those years based in Beijing, covering a swath of Asia stretching from the Khyber Pass to East Timor. In his time overseas, he covered the Hong Kong handover, the fall of Suharto in Indonesia and the North-South Korean Summit. During the Afghan War, Frank reported from Pakistan and Kashmir.
